D: It is written…that was the answer, how Jamal Malik won 20 million rupees.

Slumdog Millionaire
The movie that won eight academy awards did not disappoint. It was a story of a boy from the slums of Dharavi, how he overcame the odds to survive as a young orphan with his elder brother. Hardship that saw him covered in feces, witnessing his mother being killed, staying in the dumps, kidnapped and almost forced into beggary, lost his best friend Latika who eventually became his lover…and yet all these gave him everything he needed to know to win 20 million rupees.

Young Jamal
The movie gave an insight on the extreme ends of poverty and also richness in India. However, what i liked most about the movie was how the two young brothers relied on each other to survive, always there to cover each others ass. Although there was a period when Jamal’s brother, Salim made the wrong choices and went against Jamal but in the end, he made up for his mistakes and sacrificed his life for Jamal.

Fairy tale ending
Of course the fairy tale ending of Jamal and Latika earned the movie extra marks too :P And although Slumdog Millionaire was just a movie i still do believe in miracles and fairy tale endings, that sometimes we do get lucky in life if it’s our destiny, if it was written for us. Anyway, only complain I have of the movie is that Jamal practically had only ‘one face expression’ throughout the movie. Then again what can i expect from a guy with such a bitter past.
…reminds me of my brother.

Bro & I at Reservior Park
I admit we were never the closest pair of siblings there is out there but we went through a lot together.
I remember how much we used to fight and me being the younger brother, was always the one who ’started it first’. Mostly i was the one who will be snatching or stealing things from him and yet there was one time i got so angry a threw his pillow into the drain outside our house :) So bad rite? I also remember those moments where our pillow fights on my parents bed would turn ugly and we end up fighting with our fists. Then of course my parents would blame the older sibling for not giving in. Haha! Advantage of being the youngest. Yeah i have to say at times i hated him and wanted him dead but don’t we all do at certain points of our lives?

With Mr. Funny pants in front of Hilton
But then I also remember the moments where he would look after me like an elder brother. Times where he would fetch me back from tuition, bring me on bicycle rides, playing basketball, football and badminton, play computer games with me, share his stuff, listen to my crap, teach me what a older brother should and of course buying things for me :)
It’s true when people say that you miss them most when they are not around. Haha. It sucks that i’m the only sibling here and i can’t talk to him about gadgets, movies or cars etc but it’s ok. We don’t need to be the most perfect or closest pair of brothers or win any ‘best brothers award’, what matters is that we were brothers all along and will always be, just like Jamal and Salim, Athos and Porthos, even till the end, will cover your arse.
I know it would be impossible to choose who you get as a brother but i’m damn glad it was you. *even though u pissed me off sometimes*
