I’ve never been a very fit person since young. I never took part in any sports competition and there is no one sport i can say that i am good at. But still, i grew up with some basketball, soccer, swimming and badminton once in a while. Anyway, ever since i started uni, i got more lazy. I never bother to exercise and my diet – horribly imbalanced and unhealthy. At one point in time i was almost 80kgs. I looked real fat and bloated. I was a pig.

And being like every other Kuching citizen, i had this craze for Big Apple Donuts when it opened back in April 2008. You know la, people say “New Toilet” so everyone also kiasu. I went there almost 2-3 times a week and i had donuts for breakfast, tea and supper. Within that short period of time, i think i consumed enough sugar and fat to last me a year, or even more.

Anyway, slowly but surely all these bad habits + uni stress caught up with me and starting for the second half of last year, during my final semester of uni, i got sick very often and i was so unfit i couldn’t even climb the stairs of my uni without stopping to catch my breath every few (*very few) floors.

After i recovered from my last ‘very extremely’ bad gastric in August, i decided that enough was enough and i had to do something to improve my health. I joined a gym and changed my diet. Cutting down a lot of the carbs and my dinner portion.
It helped. I lost weight and i didn’t get sick that often anymore.

……Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year came. Relatives and friends came back from all over the place and there were a lot of meeting up, limteh, drinking, partying, visiting. Obviously these meant that my gym and diet plan got a little side tracked. lol. I was absent from gym for almost 2 months but good thing i didn’t not put on that much weight considering the amount of food i ate. Aiya, it’s hard to not eat when u go visiting or when you go for a family reunion. Have to give face ma rite.

So, after 2 months of not exercising, i finally decided that it’s time to keep up with my resolution. However i didn’t go back to my previous gym. Indeed it was a good gym with a reasonable monthly fee and really helpful gym members but it was getting crowded and so my colleagues suggested i go over to their gym just across the road.

The monthly fees were a bit more than my previous gym but i guess it’s better to pay more and in return i get to use the facilities instead of going to a cheaper over-crowded one rite?

It was much much bigger – two shoplots to be exact and on the 4th floor. So climbing up the stairs to get there was already a warm-up routine :) The place was better equipped with a lot of fancy, fun machines other than the normal treadmills and bicycles.

The place is much cleaner, fully air conditioned, got Astro to watch also and since it’s 4 floors high, you get quite an good view la. Besides that, they have towels for rent and there’s two shower rooms equipped with water heaters too.

I was told that the gym was a dealer for exercise balls so it was quickly obvious when you walked in the door that you see balls everywhere. Big ones, small ones, medium ones, blue ‘kharer’ ones, pink ‘kharer’ ones, round ones and long ones. Hahaha.

Anyway, as expected that there would be posters on the wall promoting the balls and one caught my attention. It was a poster showing places that you might use the exercise ball.

WTF?! At the office?! While using your computer? There’s no support for the back and even an idiot can tell you that it’s not a good idea. Thank God i sit on a chair in my office. Wait wait, not only that…

At schools? For the children to sit on in the classroom?! You gotta be kidding rite? Imagine your poor kids sitting on balls. They probably would need to concentrate more on their balance than what the teacher is teaching >.<
Anyway, it’s only been my third time to my new gym today and so far i’m loving it. It’s a plus also to have my friends to train/workout with me together to give support. However, there is one friend of mine who likes to tell dirty jokes and give ‘unnecessary’ give extra support when i’m working out and thus resulting that i waste more energy than needed. Lol :P
